Julie + MilkWorks
Julie grew up in urban Bogota, Columbia, in an extremely dangerous environment. During a riot, she ran into a tall American man, fell in love, married him, and moved to his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska. She couldn't speak English, she couldn't drive, she had never seen snow, and she had never been more scared. Julie wanted to help other mothers in similar situations and became a community breastfeeding educator with MilkWorks.
Julie bridges a cultural gap for these women, supports them, and helps them support each other. The ultimate goal is for the moms to breastfeed successfully so their babies can thrive.
Breastfeeding is sometimes romanticized, sometimes thought of as icky, or anything in between. Whatever you may expect from photos of a breastfeeding support group, the reality is the beautiful chaos that follows.
